In the past, there was no Chinese on the website of Apple Hong Kong. Since July 2008, the launch of iPhone 3G, Apple Hong Kong has updated their website with both Chinese and English. However, some of the parts were still presented in English.

Today, there’s more, even for the videos. The above image shown that  Chinese subtitles are now available in some of the videos. For the tutorial part(http://www.apple.com/hk/findouthow/mac/), some of them are Chinese versions, the voice over is Cantonese, and the interface language of the Mac OS X in the demo screen is Chinese as well. So…what’s next?

以前的香港蘋果網頁，是沒有中文的。自從2008年7月iPhone 3G在港推出後，才有了中文和英文兩種語言。然而當時有部份內容仍然是英文的。

今天，中文的部份變得更多了，甚至影片也開始有中文出現。最上的一張圖可以看到，部份蘋果網頁內的影片已加入中文字幕。在Mac入門教學的部份(http://www.apple.com/hk/findouthow/mac/)，甚至已加了中文版的影片：也就是說，教學影片的人聲是講廣東話的，而畫面中的Mac OS X介面也設成了中文。那…下一步會中文化什麼呢？

I heard of this Nikon DSLR with a twistable LCD on the Internet last week. Today, it’s finally here, called the D5000. It seems to be a new product line between D90 and D60, with some addition functions, like the twistable LCD.

Someone said that DSLRs today is more simliar to DCs, especially the additional functions like Live View, Movie Capture and Twistable LCD. I don’t think there is any problem. Life view + twistable LCD is really useful for taking pictures. There’s no reason for not changing for Digital SLR. Shooting movie is obviously different bewteen DC & DSLR.  Clips shot by DSLR feel much like Movies, and it’s not easy to shoot, the use of tripod and manual focus are must. There is no snap shot film.

The one who really need to be worried is the prosumer digital camera. Its value becomes less clear in terms of functionality and price.

早陣子在網上已知道Nikon會推出這台扭扭LCD單鏡反光機。今天終於知道，它名為D5000。看來會是D60和D90之間再加上扭扭LCD的新產品線。

有人說DSLR越來越像DC，尤其是Live View、影片拍攝和扭扭LCD這些功能。我認為這樣並無不妥，Live View + 扭扭LCD對取景莫大有幫助，數碼化之後的DSLR沒理由一成不變。而且DSLR拍影片跟DC亦大不同：DSLR拍片畫面電影感十足，但拍攝極之困難，需要腳架和手動對焦，絕不能隨意拍。

值得擔心的，倒是半專業的Prosumer機款，無論在功能、價格上，定位都越來越模糊了。

I bought a Lightsaber few days ago at a shop near the place I work. This is a coin saver actually. According to the packing, it can saves up to thirty 100 Yen coin. I tried to put $10 Hong Kong coin in but no luck, it doesn’t fit. For Hong Kong dollar, I can only put 50 cents coin in. But, how is the purpose of saving 50 cents?

早前在工作的地方附近買了一枝光劍。其實這是用來儲硬幣的。根據包裝說明，它可以儲約30個100 Yen硬幣。本來想用來儲十元港幣，可惜放不進去。還好，五亳硬幣還是可以容下的，但是，我要儲五亳來做甚麼？

Some iPod users may in love with the Sleep Timer function, which allows them to set a countdown time, say 30mins, and play their music during sleep, and the iPod will stop the music automatically. It’s a great feature especially for saving battery power.

However, many iPhone / iPod touch users don’t know how to set Sleep Timer (They even don’t know this function is built-in already.) Let’s follow the steps:

很多iPod用家都很喜愛Sleep Timer睡眠倒數的功能，用戶可設定入睡時間(如30分鐘)，然後播放音樂。音樂便會在30分鐘後自動停止播放。這功能對於節省電量和睡眠質素而言都十分實用。

然而很多iPhone / iPod touch用戶都不知道原來這個功能早已內置了，讓我們來看看怎樣做：

Tap “Clock” at the Home Screen
在主畫面點選Clock(時鐘)

Tap “Timer” at the bottom-right coner.
點選右下角的Timer(倒數時計)

Adjust the countdown time, then click “When Timer Ends”
調整倒數的時間，然後點選When Timer Ends(當倒數結束時)

This is the most important part: Tap “Sleep iPod” at the top of the list.
這是最重要的部份，點選最頂的Sleep iPod(讓iPod進入睡眠)

The Sleep Timer started, you may quit the clock app and play your music. Since the Sleep Timer is still running at the background, The music will stop automatically when it counts to zero. Don’t worry, it won’t power off your iPhone / iPod touch, just sleep.
睡眠倒數開始了，你可以離開Clock時鐘並開始播放你的音樂了。由於倒數會繼續在背景執行，當數到零的時候，音樂便會溫柔地停止播放。別擔心，他不會關掉你的iPhone/iPod touch，只會睡眠。

Yesterday, due to my job, I need to add some validation functions for a web form (which means to check if the required fields have been filled or not). I googled with some keywords and found the website of Apple Developer Connect(ADC) which has all the resources I needed.

ADC provides rich developerment resources for not only the OSX and iPhone, but also the Web, too! And this is what I was looking for:

A complete set of  JavaScript source code. The most important thing is: I can modify the code as I want. (Since I have to modify it in order to complete the web form I was working on.)

昨天因為工作的關係，要為一張Web Form加入欄位有效性檢驗功能(就是檢查必填的格子有沒有被忽略了之類的功能)。在Google隨意搜了一下，無意中發現了原來蘋果的Apple Developer Connect網頁，正好提供了我想要的東西。

原來ADC提供的不只是OSX和iPhone的開發資源，連Web的也提供了很豐富的資源。而我就是為了這一頁而來：

非常方便齊全的JavaScript原始碼。最重要的是我可以修改原始碼供自用(因為我真的需要修改才符合我要造的效果)。

After few hours of updating, we all know, that is the Xserve. Xserve is an attractive thing. One of my friends told me. that he saw a room of Xserves in a Japanese data center(Somedays later, he also bought few Xserves for his business).

Unfortunately, when the answer came out, I heard a lot of voices of disappointment.

Since iPhone came to the world, Apple has much more strange fans than before. They ask Apple for revolutionary surprises every time. People who “expect surprises”…what a contradictory! If Apple couldn’t satisfy them with the “surprises” they’ve expected, such as “iPhone nano”, “Mac Netbook”, “iMac touch”, then, they’ll be extremely disappointed. (Yeah, that’s extremely contradictory)

Poor Apple, those “Fans” won’t look at your enterprise-level product like Xserve, neither your innovation on software (like iLife 09), nor your advanced art of production (like MacBook Unibody), they even don’t care on iPod anymore. No matter what kind of revolutionary product you’re inventing, they just want a more tiny and sexy iPhone which can run Office, Full HD video, built-in radio, 10M Pixels camera with auto-foucs and macro and face detection and smile-shutter, Flash-game-able…..and a NetMacBook costs lower than US$399 with full functions and HDMI out and Full HD hardware-decoder and GTA4-able and Windows7-able (!)….

經過了數小時的更新後，大家現在都知道，是蘋果的伺服器Xserve更新了。Xserve是很吸引的東西，曾有朋友告訴我，在日本的數據中心看到整個房間都是Xserve (後來他好像也向蘋果購入了幾台)。

可惜，當這個答案跑出來後，我在一些討論區看到很多失望的聲音。

自 從世界有了iPhone以後，蘋果多了很多奇怪的支持者。他們要求蘋果每一次(大約兩三個月一次吧)都要帶給他們震撼世界的驚喜。「期望會有驚喜」的 人…真是既矛盾又奇怪。但如果蘋果不是帶給他們預期的「iPhone nano、Mac Netbook、iMac touch」這些「驚喜」的話，便會極其失望(簡直矛盾到極點)。

可憐的是蘋果，那些「支持者」不會看企業級的產品(如Xserve)、不 會看你軟件的創新(如上次iLife 09的發佈)、也不會看你的設計工藝有多先進和頂級(如MacBook Unibody的發佈)，甚至現在連iPod也不在乎了。也不管蘋果你再會發明什麼我們沒有見過的產品，他們只要更輕更細小更帥氣的iPhone，最好可 以跑Office、看高清、內置收音機、千萬像素鏡頭連自動對焦加微距加Face Detection加一笑即拍功能、玩Flash Game…..和一台最好不用HK$3000 / US$399，卻功能齊全、有HDMI、看硬解高清、玩GTA4、可以跑Windows 7(!) 的MacBook。

抱歉，我離題了。有時候，我寧願iPhone是這樣子就算了….

Apple Online Store just shutted down (globally) and updating. What do you expect? The rumoring new 2TB Time Capsule? Updated MacBook? Or something crazy like iPhone nano, iMac touch, iPod Pro, eee MacBook?

蘋果網上商店剛(全球)暫停營業，並正在更新。你期望會有什麼呢？最近流傳的2TB Time Capule？ 全新規格的MacBook？還是一些瘋狂的幻想產品如iPhone nano、iMac touch、iPod Pro，還是 eee MacBook呢？

Just after the release of iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2, Stanford University had started their first lesson of CS193P iPhone Programming in this quarter. It’s a bit different from the last quarter: The lessons will be recorded and published onto iTunesU and it’s free for everyone! Actually, iTunesU is a really great and impressive plaform to me. Most of the top universities in this planet are willing to put their lectures, handout notes and even the scripts on iTunesU for everyone. Today, it’s not a dream anymore for those who want to study from the top colleges.

Perhaps that’s a support from the god, perhaps that’s a trap from Apple. I’ve got so many studying materials of iPhone Programming. I wish I can use them wisely, really.

在iPhone 3.0 beta 2公開下載後，史丹福大學今個學期的CS193P iPhone Prgramming開始上第一課了。今次跟上個學期不同，從今堂開始，課堂將會被錄影並放上iTunesU供全世界免費收看。其實iTunesU一直都是一個非常震撼的學習平台，地球上的頂尖學府都將課堂錄影、筆記、甚至講稿放上網免費任人收看和下載。要上世界級頂尖大學的課，不再是夢。

也許天上給我的支持，也許是蘋果公司的圈套，今天的我得到了很多iPhone Programming的學習資源，希望我真的可以好好善用，學好這門手藝。
